Paracetamol is one of the weakest painkillers on the analgesic ladder. It usually helps to relieve daily pain. In case of severe pain, it can be combined with molecules derived from morphine or codeine. In some cases, especially during acute flare-ups, anti-inflammatory drugs can also be added.
 
However, caution should be exercised as these drugs cause relatively significant (cardiovascular, digestive and renal) side effects. Anti-inflammatory drugs are therefore generally not prescribed over the long term. Moreover, according to all international recommendations patients should use the smallest doses possible and for as short a time as possible.
